Over the 12 months of 2023, DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators connected 1,467 solar and wind power plants to the grids. Total capacity of the connected facilities is almost 117 MW. Independent sources of green power generation help decentralize and improve efficiency of the Ukrainian energy system and improve its resilience in general.

After russia’s attacks on the country’s energy system in 2022-2023, importance of small independent power generation facilities increased tremendously. Every such new facility, connected to the grids, is a contribution to going through the difficult winter and transformation of the Ukrainian energy industry. DTEK Grids helps create conditions in Ukraine for the growth in the number of such facilities – company’s distribution system operators connect them to its grids.

“Increasing volumes of green power generation is the key in the government plan for the Ukrainian energy industry transformation. The country will be able to achieve this goal if it will create favorable environment for development of prosumers*, while business and average citizens will actively install solar panels and wind turbines at their facilities. However, the grids must be physically ready for such load,” - underscored DTEK Grids CEO Oleksandr Fomenko. – This significantly changes the role of the grids. At the same time, we should take into account that its infrastructure requires large-scale modernization and constant improvement. This is the path the world is taking, and DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators are taking this path in Ukraine. Despite the war and focus of all company’s efforts on restoration of what was destroyed by the enemy, we continue our grids development projects, which will allow connecting and using green power generation facilities. Our task is to create conditions for connection of such facilities and ensure reliable power supply, build flexible and efficient infrastructure of the grids for recovery and development of towns and regions.”

Over the 12 months of 2023, DTEK Grids connected the largest number of green power generation facilities in the Kyiv region – 704 solar power plants with a total capacity of 13.4 MW. However, the highest figure of total green capacity is in Odesa region, where DTEK Odesa Grids energy workers connected 306 solar power plants since the beginning of 2023 and increased capacity of previously built wind generation, connecting a total ofa 67.6 MW over the course of the year. 33.9 MW that will be produced by 361 new solar plants were connected in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Despite active hostilities in the Donetsk region, DTEK Doaznetsk Grids energy workers connected 52 solar and one wind plant with a total capacity of 1.4 MW. 43 solar power plants with total capacity of 0.45 MW were connected in Kyiv.

Since the beginning of business activity in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk regions, and in the city of Kyiv, DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators have already connected a total of 16,453 green power generation facilities with a total capacity of 1,900 MW to the grids.
