Big Network Renovation: 2 powerful substations to be reconstructed in the Dnipropetrovsk region
The KL substation in Dnipro is a system one and is operated by the Energy System of Ukraine. This substation supplies power to large industrial enterprises, including the Samara Plant of Reinforced Concrete Products, Interpipe NTZ, etc. The existing 150 kV power transformer could not regulate the voltage when the load changed. Replacement with a new one will improve the reliability of power supply, automatically adjust the voltage parameters. And, as a result, deliver high-quality electricity to end users. The KL substation will be fully commissioned by the end of this year.
The Grushevskaya Substation of 150 kV is the main power source for the city of Marganets, including the city-forming enterprises of the mining and processing industry, as well as the villages in the Nikopolsky, Tomakovsky and Solonyansky districts. After completing the reconstruction, the renewed substation will provide additional capacity, ensure that the equipment operates without overloading, and improve the quality and reliability of power supply for more than 35,000 of the company's customers. The project is designed for 2 years. It is scheduled that the substation will start operating in 2022.
In total, DTEK Dnipro Grids invested UAH 70 million in these projects. These days, the reconstruction of both substations is ongoing.
In addition, the company began developing a project for a large-scale reconstruction of the 35 kV Gdantsevka-35 substation, which supplies power to the central part of the city of Kryvyi Rih, enterprises and social facilities, numbering about 4,000 customers. Geodetic and geological works, measurements at the facility have already been completed, initial data for the replacement of equipment have been collected. The implementation of the project is scheduled for 2023/2024.
These works at the substations are carried out under the Big Network Renovation project, the purpose of which is to modernize the networks and power equipment in the Dnipropetrovsk region in accordance with the needs of its residents.
During the reconstruction, transformers, switchgears, switches, relay protection will be replaced depending on the substation, the buildings and territories will be put in order. Instead of the old equipment, which will be dismantled, the company will install new ones that meet present-day requirements for power equipment of this class of power facilities.
It became possible to increase the amount of funds that the company invests in construction projects or complete replacement of power equipment after the company switched to the RAB tariff that stimulates investments. It made it possible to increase the investment program of DTEK Dnipro Grids by 34% compared to 2020, that is from UAH 753 million to UAH 1 billion.
For reference
As previously reported, in 2021, DTEK Dnipro Grids will invest over UAH 1 billion in the electrical infrastructure of the Dnipropetrovsk region. The company will reconstruct two large substations and implement 14 projects that will increase the reliability of power supply for residents of the region and the efficiency of emergency response.
In 2021, the company will invest about UAH 19 million in equipping a special 6-20 kV landfill and purchasing special tools, machinery, protective equipment, and equipment for live-line working, meaning no power outages for customers.
In addition, 67,000 day/night meters will be installed for the residents of Dnipro and the region. By the end of the year, 351,000 customers will have them, and that is every 4th family in the region.
