DTEK Dnipro Grids emergency crews went into high alert mode due to impending storm

Weather forecasters expect difficult weather conditions in the Dnipropetrovsk region until the end of the week. In particular, they forecast rains, thunderstorms, hail and 15-20 m/s squally wind gusts for the next couple of days. DTEK crews have been transferred to the high alert mode in order to eliminate any blackouts in case of weather worsening.

According to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology, weather conditions are to start changing in the evening of June 21. Rains, thunderstorms and sometimes hail will come from the western areas of the region. During the storm, there can sometimes be squalls of 15-20 meters per second. Difficult weather conditions will last until June 25 and can lead to massive emergencies on electrical equipment. In particular, rupture of power lines caused by strong wind gusts, fallen branches or trees and, as a result, de-energization of customers.

“DTEK Dnipro Grids emergency crews have already been transferred to the high alert mode and are ready to promptly restore electricity to the customers’ homes in case of emergencies. We remind residents of the Dnipropetrovsk region that during the storm it is better to stay home and be careful,” – informed the company.

Distribution System Operator reminds of the following safety rules:

  • avoid staying near power lines during strong wind;
  • if you discover broken lines, please stay 8-12 meters away, never touch bare wires and inform the company immediately;
  • in case of blackouts, do not try to perform repair by yourself. If a blackout happened in an apartment or house – call an electrician, servicing your house. If there is a blackout at the entire street – contact DTEK Dnipro Grids specialists;
