Power grids are more than 70% worn out in some areas in the Pokrovsk district. Some equipment was installed back in the 50s and needs to be replaced or upgraded. A five-year program to upgrade and reconstruct electrical equipment has been developed to improve the quality and reliability of power supply to the residents of the Pokrovsk District.

“We do this work within the Big Network Renovation program, the purpose of which is to modernize the grids and electrical equipment in the Donetsk region in tune with the needs of its residents. We could implement such large-scale projects thanks to the investment incentive RAB tariffs introduced in 2021. Thus, the company could increase investments in the energy infrastructure of the Donetsk region by 72% compared to 2020. In 2021, we are investing more than UAH 15 million to upgrade of the Pokrovsk District networks infrastructure,” says Oleksii Degtyarev, Director General for DTEK Donetsk Grids. “DTEK serves the Ukraine’s interests and takes care of its customers.”

“Our region is developing, the load on the energy system is increasing. That’s why the quality of power supply is lower now - the old networks cannot withstand such an increase in load. This problem was getting bigger every year,” says Ruslan Trebushkin, the mayor of Pokrovsk. “Now, having the large-scale modernization project of electrical equipment in place, we believe that the residents of our city and area will receive a more reliable power supply.”

The program envisages the reconstruction and overhaul of more than 90 km of 0.4 kV overhead lines, overhaul and maintenance of 66 transformer substations, reconstruction and repairs of about 20 km of cable lines of various voltage class. Investments in modernization will amount to UAH 164 million over 5 years.
