Big Network Renovation: DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids reduced the interruption time by around 91 minutes thanks to repairs of power lines
Since the beginning of the year, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids has invested almost UAH 36 million in current power grid repairs. With this money, the company repaired more than 2,550 km of overhead and 680 km of 0.4-110 kV cable transmission lines, 27 35-110 kV substations and 1,190 low-voltage transformer substations. The company's specialists also cleared 3,120 km of vegetation near 0.4-110 kV power lines so that wires and power equipment would not be damaged by falling trees.
"DTEK strives to become a benchmark for customer focus. The main goal of the Big Network Renovation program is to increase the reliability of electricity supply to our customers across the Kyiv region. Thanks to investments in the grid this year, we have reduced the interruption duration by 23% compared to the same period in 9 months of 2020 from 416 to 325 minutes,” says Vitaliy Shaida, General Director for DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.
In total, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids serves about 50,000 kilometers of power lines and 11,800 substations in the Kyiv region. Networks are the most important component of the infrastructure, so they need constant diagnostics and timely repairs. Investments to keep the network in good condition help to prevent failures in advance and, as a result, not to leave the company's customers without power.
In addition to the network repair program to improve electricity supply to residents of Bucha district, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids will complete the reconstruction of 110/10 kV substation Gostomel and will build a new powerful 110/35/10 kV substation Kozyn for residents of Obukhiv district by the end of 2021. The cost of construction of these assets is UAH 220 million. Funds for this are provided by the company's investment program, which has increased by 112% to UAH 725 million in 2021 compared to 2020 thanks to the incentive RAB tariffs.
Also, by the end of the year, the company will install 160 reclosers for UAH 79 million in the Kyiv region. These devices will be able to independently restore power to customers if there are minor faults, switch damaged areas, as well as notify dispatchers of the exact failure location, where to send the repair crew.
As previously reported, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids is building a new line near Obukhiv.
