Big Network Renovation: DTEK Kyiv Grids reconstructed a transformer substation in Teremky
Transformer substation #175 located on 3, Academika Glushkova Avenue was commissioned in 1977, more than 40 years ago. The equipment has become obsolete and could no longer fully ensure the efficiency of network management and environmental safety.
At the same time, the power supply of 26 high-rise buildings, 31 detached homes, a school, three kindergartens, industrial, commercial and research institutions located on Teremkovskaya Street and Academika Glushkova Avenue depends on the stable operation of this transformer substation. Therefore, the Kyiv energy workers included its reconstruction in the network development program for this year.
“DTEK is a business that serves the Ukraine’s interests. Sustainable development is a priority for the company's investments. Therefore, DTEK Kyiv Grids is implementing the Big Network Renovation project so that Kyiv electrical infrastructure would function stably and could meet the needs of a city with almost three million people. Our company has invested more than 5 million hryvnias in the reconstruction of the transformer substation on Akademika Glushkova Avenue. Thanks to this, residents of the Teremky district received a reliable source of power supply,” says Denis Bondar, General Director at DTEK Kyiv Grids.
The new equipment of the transformer substation is modern and adapted for remote control thanks to automation tools. Thus, in the event of emergencies, the company can switch the lines and return power to customers in a matter of minutes. Also, new vacuum circuit breakers were installed in the reconstructed transformer substation, instead of the old oil ones. They do not contain oil, and therefore there is no threat of polluting the environment with oil products.
As previously reported, DTEK Kyiv Grids shared their plans to renovate the power grids for 2022. The company plans to reconstruct five large high-voltage substations, 27 cable lines, replace 90 oil circuit breakers, automate 60 transformer substations, and install more than 50,000 smart meters. Denis Bondar, Director General of the company, announced this during a live stream between DTEK Kyiv Grids and the customers on Facebook as part of the #AskAboutLight project.
