Big Network Renovation: DTEK Kyiv Grids to reconstruct the Kurenevskaya substation for Obolon and Podil residents
The 110/10 kV Kurenevskaya substation is in the Obolonsky district in Kyiv and was commissioned in 1977. It provides electricity to more than 2,000 residential buildings, 26 schools, 38 kindergartens, 8 hospitals, many enterprises, and offices in the Obolonsky and Podolsky districts in Kyiv.
Denis Bondar, General Director for DTEK Kyiv Grids, told Petro Panteleev about the construction and installation work progress at the substation. He spoke about the technical features of the work performed and the scale of the city's electrical infrastructure renewal this year.
“DTEK is a business that serves the Ukraine’s interests. This year, within the Big Network Renovation project and with the support of the city authorities, we are reconstructing three large high-voltage substations, 21 medium and low voltage power facilities, 66 kilometers of cable and overhead lines. This will improve the quality and reliability of power supply to hundreds of thousands of our customers in all Kyiv districts,” says Denis Bondar.
According to the head of DTEK Kyiv Grids, the Kurenevskaya substation reconstruction is at the final stage. A new transformer has already been installed at the facility, a second is being installed, the oil collector and oil outlets have been reconstructed, relay protection, emergency automation and computer remote control systems have been replaced.
DTEK Kyiv Grids is planning to complete all work at the Kurenevskaya substation by the end of the year. The total investment in the power facility will amount to over UAH 41 million. Thanks to this, about 50,000 Kyiv residents will receive a reliable and modern source of power supply. This upgrade was possible thanks to the investment incentive RAB tariffs introduced in 2021. The company could increase its investment in networks by 16% compared to 2020.
“The Kyiv energy infrastructure is still being developed, and the comfort in the homes of Kyiv residents depends on it. Power substations are being reconstructed; electric lines are being laid. It is important that DTEK reports about their work to the local community and discusses development plans with them. Thanks to this, we understand the line of their work and, for our part, we suggest what is better to focus on, so that the capital always has lights on and comfort," says Petro Panteleev, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, when visiting the substation.
