Big Network Renovation: reconstruction of high-voltage lines completed for 106,000 customers of Right-Bank Dnipro
Overhead lines in this area were built in 1955. They supply power to more than 600 transformer substations of 6-10 kV. End consumers are the regional children's hospital, large hypermarkets, school facilities and preschools, household and business customers. Reconstruction of this line will ensure that more than one hundred thousand households in Dnipro have fewer power outages, the power supply is reliable and of high quality. Reconstruction was started at the beginning of 2021 simultaneously on the right and left banks of Dnipro. Now they are fully completed.
Here, more than 16 km of lines were replaced. Also, 30-meter latest electrical poles - multisided poles - were installed, which are completely new for the Dnipropetrovsk region. The company could implement such a large-scale project thanks to the investment incentive RAB tariffs introduced in 2021. They could increase its investment program by 34% compared to 2020. These funds were used to upgrade and develop the energy infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk region in tune with the needs of its residents.
“DTEK is a business that serves the Ukraine’s interests. This year, UAH 43 million was allocated for the reconstruction of high-voltage overhead lines in Dnipro between the Uzlovaya substations and the Pridneprovskaya TPP. These lines of 150 kV are backbone of the city's energy supply and will provide uninterrupted power supply to the Nagornyi part, Sokol, Poplar and the Substation. In total, there are more than 106,000 of our customers,” says Andrii Tereshchuk, Head of DTEK Dnipro Grids.
The company carried out the reconstruction according to European technologies. For the first time they tested a new type of wire AERO-Z, which is more resistant to temperature extremes and frost. It has a special configuration that prevents snow from sticking to it and icing, which most often leads to failures and wire breaks on the lines.
Also, they used multisided poles for the first time. These poles take up less space, are more aesthetic than conventional metal ones, and do not have a metal mesh in their structure, and therefore will be of no interest to metal seekers. The company installed 7 such structures and 11 more conventional galvanized electrical poles.
In total, this year the company is investing more than UAH 1 billion in the development of the region's electrical infrastructure. The Big Network Renovation projects include the reconstruction of two powerful substations in Dnipro and Manganets. As well as the renovation of more than 249 kilometers of power lines and the re-equipment of 1,200 distribution points and transformer substations.
