Big Network Renovation in Mariupol: DTEK Donetsk Grids improved power supply of 50,000 households in 2021
Electrical grids were installed in Mariupol 50-60 years ago and are in dire need of modernization. A series of substations and lines, built in the past century, could not withstand the load of a modern industrial city, thus impacting both quality of voltage and amount of emergency outages. It is worth noting that power supply utilities in Mariupol are 70% worn-out. In 2021, thanks to the introduced incentive RAB tariffs the company was able to launch a Big Network Renovation program for Donetsk region, including Mariupol.
“DTEK is a safe and responsible company. We hear the needs of our customers. We know about the problems they face. We put our efforts every day to make the power supply of their homes more reliable. During the past year we have installed 8 new modern transformer substations in Mariupol. New equipment allows us to protect our clients from voltage swings. Under the scope of the Big Network Renovation project we have reconstructed and upgraded 4 overhead and 36 cable lines in the city, amounting a total of over 16 km of lines, which is, for comparison, twice the length of the Metallurgov Avenue, which is one of the longest streets in the city. Overall package of works in Mariupol allowed us to replace obsolete equipment and improve power supply for 50,000 households”, says Oleksii Degtyarev, Head of DTEK Donetsk Grids.
The company noted that a temporary transformer substation was installed during substations installation activities in order to keep customers connected to the grid during installation of new equipment. DTEK Donetsk Grids specialists have also reconstructed a distribution center and upgraded two high-voltage substations (110 kV). Line entrances and transformer bushings of substation “Gorod 8” were replaced in Levoberezhnyi district, while battery units of substation “Gorod 3» were replaced in Kalmiusskii district.
Installation of 8 new modern high-tech complete transformer substations has ensured better power supply quality for residents of Mira and Nahimova avenues, Kuindzhi, Semashko, Bogdana, Gracheva, Lazareva, Flotskaia, Bagrationa, Stalevarnaia streets, 1st and 2nd Slobodka, Prokatnyi lane.
Energy workers have completed reconstruction of old maxed out transmission lines in Centralnyi and Primorskii districts. Reconstruction included installation of 76 new poles. New overhead lines significantly improved power supply for residents of Torgovaia, Kharlampievskaia, Mitropolitskaia, Georgievskaia, architektora Nilsena, Gavannaia, Rybnaia, Zheleznodorozhnaia streets.
The company will continue the Big Network Renovation program in the city in 2022.
