Thunderstorms hit Dnipropetrovsk Region: DTEK restores service to 80 settlements that were partially left without electricity

Severe weather with gusts of wind, showers and hail hit Dnipropetrovsk Region at night. Such rough weather conditions caused damage to lines and entailed massive outages. Kryvyi Rih, as well as Verkhnedneprovsky and Solonyansky Districts, witnessed the most of outages. DTEK Dnipro Grids currently works in 80 settlements in the region to bring electricity back to every home.

Thunderstorms and gusts of wind entailed outages and damages to 55 lines and 790 transformer substations. Most outages were in Kryvyi Rih, Pyatihatsky, Podhorodnyansky, Solonyansky, Verkhnedneprovsky and Tsarichansky assembly units. Kryvyi Rih suffered the most; the rough weather caused the de-energization of 45 substations and 10 power lines there.

The weather is getting worse, and DTEK Dnipro Grids emergency crews have been put on full alert. They are working 24/7 to repair damaged sections of lines as quickly as possible.

“We involved 150 workers and 52 pieces of equipment. It is quite challenging to do the work because of rough weather conditions. However, they keep working hard to bring electricity back. DTEK is a reliable and conscious weather. We take care of our customers, and that’s why we sent our people and our resources to struggle against the elements and bring the electricity back to their homes,” says Andrii Tereshchiuk, CEO of DTEK Dnipro Grids.

The company plans to eliminate the most of outages by the end of the day if there are no new failures. The company will be informing about the works progress and when the restoration works are done.

According to weather forecasters, showers and thunderstorms are expected on July 21-22. Wind gusts of 15-20 m/s, and hail in some areas will be hitting Dnipro and Dnipropetrovsk Region. Hazard level 1 (yellow) has been announced in the region.

DTEK Dnipro Grids asks residents to be careful, and not to approach bare wires, broken lines, open doors, and hatches of electrical installations, as well as damaged poles and trees.
