Once in a while, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids takes customer meter readings and reports them on to the electricity supplier. They do this so that the electricity bills from the supplier contain the correct numbers for the consumed electricity. The company encourages customers to ensure access to meters that are in detached houses and apartments and reminds how to tell a real energy worker from a fake one.

Electricity meters are most often located inside the premises that belong to customers, such as apartments and detached houses. Less often they are in public places: on staircases, street utility poles, etc. To take the meter readings, the DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids specialists need an access to them. Usually there are no problems with outside metering devices. But if a meter is inside the apartment or house, there might be some difficulties since the owners may not let the company's specialists to check them.

“DTEK strives to become the benchmark of customer focus and implements modern service standards. To make it convenient for customers to use the services of DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids, and ensure accurate electricity bills, the company's representative inspect the integrity of the meters and takes the readings during the visit. Thanks to this, we get a real picture of electricity consumption, and customers have the correct number in their bills from the electricity supplier. However, the customers still need to submit meter readings monthly,” says Vitaliy Shaida, General Director for DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.

The company advises customers to allow specialists to check the meters that are in apartments, houses and within the territory of households. If this is not done, then as a result, the customer may receive inaccurate bills from electricity suppliers. In addition, failure to let the company’s representative inside to check the meter is a violation of the Retail Electricity Market Rules. This may become the basis to stop electricity supply.

DTEK specialists take check meter readings only if they have a certificate of a company employee with them. At the first request, he must show it to the customer. The specialists inspect only the meter, and neither offer any other services, nor accept payments from customers for the services rendered.

Check meter readings must be taken at least once every six months according to the legislation. In the process, the specialist also examines the meter. He checks the number, the integrity of the case and seals.
