DTEK Dnipro Grids is the leader in connecting solar power plants to the grid in Ukraine. Over 2020, the company connected 1,404 new residential solar panel systems. In total, there are 4,017 prosumers* in Dnipropetrovsk Region - households that generate renewable energy and cover not only their own needs, but also sell the excess to the grid. Typically, people in the Novomoskovsky and Nikopol Districts, as well as in the city of Kryvyi Rih switch to green generation.

The State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine reported that 8,000 home solar power plants were installed in 2020. Now there are 30,000 prosumers in Ukraine in total, and a lot of them are connected to DTEK Dnipro Grids.

«DTEK promotes the connection of home solar systems, develops energy infrastructure and provides free access to it for all customers. Now the Dnipropetrovsk Region is the absolute leader in promotion of home solar power plants. Their number almost doubles every year. Since the beginning of 2021, we have already connected another 85 residential solar power plants to the grid. In total, more than 4,000 families use renewable energy sources in the region,» says Andrii Tereshchiuk, DTEK Dnipro Grids CEO.

The company highlights that the demand for connecting small-scale generation to the infrastructure of the regional power grids remains high. There are the top five renewable energy producers:

  • There are 667 home solar power plants in the Novomoskovsk District,
  • There are 519 home solar power plants in the Nikopol District;
  • There are 481 home solar power plants in the city of Kryvyi Rih;
  • There are 358 home solar power plants in the Apostolovsky District;
  • There are 344 home solar power plants in the Dniprovskyi District.

Each prosumer can cover the needs for clean electricity of around 10 households.

Serhii Toretsky, a resident of the village of Gorky in Dnipropetrovsk Region, is the owner of such a home PV system. He installed solar panels onto the roof of his private house. He says that thanks to them, he can both save and earn.

«Since the plant is 30 kW (this is the maximum for home solar panel system), it produces on average 25,000 kW per year. It all depends on the time of the year and weather conditions. About 10% of this capacity covers our own needs. We sell the excess to the network per a green tariff,» says the owner of the home power plant.

All information on how to switch to the «green tariff» and connect a home solar power plant can be found here.
