For the first time in the history of the Ukrainian energy system, it received such large-scale damage that state power company NPC Ukrenergo has to limit electricity supply. We have prepared a brief reference for you to better understand what is a power cutoff for stabilization of the energy system.

At present time, all power outages can be divided into 2 types: blackouts and stabilization cutoffs.

Blackouts happen when some element of the energy infrastructure fails. They can be:

  • Emergency blackouts that are caused by hostilities. They can occur in case of damage or destruction of the energy infrastructure facilities due to shelling;
  • Local blackouts, when grids in some specific limited area fail;

For the first time in the history of the Ukrainian energy system, it received such large-scale damage that state power company NPC Ukrenergo has to limit electricity supply. We have prepared a brief reference for you to better understand what is a power cutoff for stabilization of the energy system.

Important: emergency blackouts are impossible to foresee and predict its duration, therefore, it is impossible to create accurate schedules that will allow prepare for blackouts. We promptly notify about introduction and cancellation of such schedules via our website and social networks.

Stabilization cutoffs are implemented for stabilization of the energy system operation. They are initiated by NPC Ukrenergo. This happens when the volume of generation becomes less than the volume of consumption or when the infrastructure is so damaged that it is unable to provide required power to the consumers. Thus, electricity supply to the customers should be temporarily limited while repair of the power facilities is ongoing.

The situation during stabilization cutoffs is more predictable, thus, it is possible to create a tentative hourly schedule of cutoffs. In such a case – schedules are posted on the Distribution System Operator’s website.

We understand that any power outage causes inconveniences to our customers.

DTEK energy workers together with specialists of NPC Ukrenergo, other emergency services and state authorities are doing everything possible to stabilize the situation as soon as possible.

We urge all customers to support energy workers in their fight on the energy front by consuming electricity reasonably – switching energy-consuming devices in turn and minimizing electricity consumption from 06.00 to 11.00 in the morning and from 17.00 to 23.00 in the evening. We ask business customers to limit usage of exterior lighting of facades of offices, restaurants, malls.

We ask you to treat energy workers with patience and understanding. Trust us, we do everything possible and impossible for these outages to affect the least number of people and to last the shortest period of time.
