DTEK Dnipro Grids to Strengthen the Power Lines in Kamianske

DTEK Dnipro Grids will reconstruct the 6kV cable electric line that feeds the residential area called Sotshorod in Kamianske. 1.5 kilometers of a backup cable network will be laid underground in parallel with the existing line to provide additional capacity in Constitution Avenue, as well as Mendeleeva, Uralskaya and Stolby streets. This project will provide reliable power supply for about 2,000 residents of these and neighboring streets during rush hours.

The electric line runs from the 35/6 kV “DG-30” substation to the distribution substations of the residential area and provides electricity to about 70 residential buildings in Sotsgorod, as well as local schools and hospitals.

DTEK serves the Ukraine’s interests, takes care of its customers and systematically renews the energy infrastructure of Kamianske. Our company is investing almost UAH 1.5 million in the reconstruction of the cable line. This project will let us avoid power equipment overload and improve the reliability of power supply for customers,” says Nikolay Shumeiko, Head of the Kamianske District of DTEK Dnipro Grids.

During reconstruction, an additional cable will be laid next to the old cable, a reserve one of a larger cross-section and capacity. The renewed line will have a large carrying capacity, and, consequently, will meet the growing demand of the district residents for electricity for years.

Last year we transferred the residents of Sotsgorod and BAM areas to electric heating. It was a large-scale job, which included the construction of small modular boiler houses, and upgrade of the in-houses networks. We installed electric heating in more than 3,000 apartments. In addition, we bought additional kilowatts from power engineers to increase the capacity for each apartment. I am grateful to DTEK Dnipro Grids for investing UAH 1.5 million in strengthening the Sotsgorod networks this year,” says Andrey Belousov, the mayor of Kamianske.

The company will use an advance method with a focus on preserving the urban infrastructure. There will be no trench-digging. The DTEK Dnipro Grids energy workers will use special equipment to drill horizontal holes along the route of the line, so-called pinholes. In total, there will be 4 such holes, through which a reinforced cable will be laid under urban communications.

The total length of the upgraded line will be almost 1.5 kilometers creating an additional power reserve for residents of Podolskaya, Mendeleeva, Tulskaya, Kotsyubinskiy and Nevskaya streets.

It is planned to complete this project before the start of the heating season in 2021.

As previously reported, in 2019/2020, DTEK Dnipro Grids, in partnership with the mayor's office, upgraded the infrastructure in 198 high-rise buildings in the city of Kamianske to ensure reliable power supply to residents of BAM and Sotsgorod in conditions of increased energy loads.
