The bird protection devices resemble polymeric safety sheaths for insulator strings and adjacent sections of wires preventing any contact with live conducting parts. They are light, durable, weather-resistant, with service life of up to 40 years. The bird protection devices mounted are intended to keep birds safe from the electric voltage and the power lines from faults.

“For the last two years, we have already installed 234 kits of these bird safety sheaths. Recently, our specialists have mounted 81 more of these on power lines in Kryvyi Rih District. And it is planned to mount another 119 kits in Novomoskovsk and Mahdalynivka Districts by the end of the year. DTEK is a responsible and trusted company that is committed to fulfilling the ornithological safety and natural biodiversity preservation program,” says CEO of DTEK Dnipro Grids Andriy Tereshchuk.

The Company’s specialists are conducting systemic inspections of overhead power lines and installing the bird safety devices: safety sheaths and light-reflecting markers making the lines more visible to birds in flight. Besides, DTEK Dnipro Grids is among first companies in Ukraine to begin installing artificial platforms for storks that just love to roost atop pylons of high-voltage power lines. For the last seven years, the specialists have mounted 146 nests in Tsarychanka, Pavlohrad, Petropavlivka, Solone, Mezhova Districts and other districts of the Region. The have also installed five wooden and metal roosts for the stock dove that is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.
