DTEK Dnipro Grids prepared 5 life hacks for smart usage of electricity

DTEK Dnipro Grids provides useful advises related to reduction of electricity cost. The “day-night” electric meters will help with that, as they allow to pay for the electricity consumed at night with a 50% discount. Additionally, specialists prepared life hacks for energy efficiency, which allow reducing monthly consumption of electricity and helping the country’s energy system.

One of the most efficient ways to reduce costs is multizone electricity meters that allow to reduce electricity cost by 50% due to the discount on night consumption (23:00 – 7:00). At the same time, you do not have to drastically transfer into the “night mode” of energy consumption. Even with the usual pace of life you can significantly save with your refrigerator (which will save an average of 70 UAH/month) and other powerful electric appliances that work 24/7 or in a “sleep” mode.

You can install a two-zone meter by contacting a Distribution System Operator. The easiest way is to do it online – by using a service on the DTEK Dnipro Grids website. The cost of this service depends on features of the meter and distance to the customer, starting from 3,000 and going up to 7,000 UAH. For this money, the customer gets a new meter, services related to its installation, sealing and set-up for operation in the day/night mode. All works are conducted within 7 days from the moment of payment for the service. You can also order the meter by visiting DTEK Dnipro Grids Customers Service Centers or by calling the company’s contact center.

Effective life hacks for smart electricity consumption that can help save on electricity and help the country’s energy system:

  • When choosing household appliances, preference should be given to the one with the energy consumption class of А, А +, А++, А+++. It is more energy efficient, thus it will consume less kilowatts, doing the same things as other less effective appliances;
  • Use night mode of energy consumption actively. Enable or use a “delayed start” feature of powerful appliances (boilers, dish washers, washing machines, air conditioners, etc.) after 23:00;
  • Try not to use an air conditioner in the evening hours (from 16:00 to 23:00). Use it in the energy efficient mode and do not cool the room below 23˚C. Enable "sleep" mode to maintain comfortable temperature;
  • Replace all lamps in your home with LED ones. Compared to incandescent lamps, they consume ten times less electricity, while emitting the same amount of light. I.e., if you have ten incandescent lamps in your home and you replace all of them with LED, the level of illumination will remain the same, but all 10 LEDs will consume the same amount of electricity as one old lamp;
  • Be smart about electricity consumption. Use air conditioner only to cool rooms where you currently stay. Turn on the light only in the rooms where you currently stay. Do not use several energy consuming appliances (iron, kettle, etc.) simultaneously – use them alternately to distribute the load;
