DTEK Donetsk Grids is still handling aftermath of severe weather
Now the energy workers are still recovering the power supply to the village of Zatishiey in the Volnovakha District and fulfilling customers’ requests.
DTEK serves the Ukraine’s interests, takes care of its customers, and does everything to ensure that their homes always have electricity, and thus, comfort. Despite severe weather, rain, and strong winds, DTEK Donetsk Grids experts worked 24/7 to fully restore power supply in the affected towns and villages.
“Since the beginning of the week, we have returned power supply to more than 72,000 of our customers, restored the operation of 104 power lines, 951 transformer substations. More than 90 repair crews were involved in emergency recovery work every day,” says Oleksii Degtyarev, CEO at DTEK Donetsk Grids. “Bakhmutskiy, Volnovakhskiy, Kramatorskiy, Mariupolskiy Districts and especially the city of Mariupol were affected the most by rough weather”.
Let's recall that severe weather is hitting Donetsk Region for the second week in a row with short breaks and has affected almost all areas of the region. The highest amount of precipitation was in Mariupol on June 8, meaning that according to local forecasters, their daily amount exceeded the monthly normal and became a record in 30 years. Because of the critical flooding of the area, the Port-35 kV substation had to be de-energized to prevent damage to the equipment. Its operation was restored after maintenance and drying of equipment with heat guns.
Settlements in the Volnovakhsky and Bakhmutsky Districts were affected the most. Rough weather caused failures of electrical equipment, breakage of power lines because of falling trees and, as a result, blackout to many customers.
In Kramatorsk and within Kramatorsk District, power supply recovery was impeded by hail.
Now DTEK Donetsk Grids emergency teams are still on high alert to ensure reliable power supply.
According to meteorologists, thunderstorms, and a squall wind of 15-20 m/s in some areas (hazard level 1, yellow) are expected across Donetsk region on June 10.
