In 2022, DTEK Kyiv Grids will reconstruct five large high-voltage substations, 27 cable lines, replace 90 oil circuit breakers, automate 60 primary substations, and install more than 50,000 smart meters. Denis Bondar, General Director of the company, announced this during a live stream between DTEK Kyiv Grids and the customers on Facebook under the #AskAboutLight project.

The reconstruction will be covered by the 2022investment program. Now DTEK Kyiv Grids has fully formed it and sent it for approval to NEURC, the national regulator. This state body is to review the draft program and approve it for further implementation by the energy company.

“DTEK is a conscious, reliable company that serves the Ukraine’s interests. The plans for 2022 are to upgrade equipment at high-voltage substations "Dneprovskaya", "Bortnichi", "Mariinskaya", "Protasovskaya" and "Svyatoshinskaya", relay 60 kilometers of medium voltage cables and replace more than 6 kilometers of low voltage overhead lines of 0.4 kV. Reconstructing our networks, we bring them closer to European standards in terms of efficiency, and our customers will get more reliable power supply,” says Denis Bondar.

According to the head of DTEK Kyiv Grids, the focus will be on the smart grid projects in 2022. Remote control systems will be installed in 60 primary substations. Customers will receive more than 50,000 smart meters that save money and remove the need to report meter readings every month.

Also, DTEK Kyiv Grids will replace 90 old oil circuit breakers at primary substations with new vacuum ones. They are more reliable and do not pose a threat to the environment. The company plans to discontinue to use oil circuit breakers by the end of 2027.

As mentioned previously, by the end of 2021, DTEK Kyiv Grids plans to complete the reconstruction of the high-voltage substations Kurenevskaya, Motocycletnaya and Luhovaya. After their commissioning, 55,000 Kyiv people, as well as the Bortnicheskaya aeration station, which is an important infrastructure facility, will get more reliable power supply. It is now possible to complete the construction and reconstruction thanks to the investment incentive RAB tariffs introduced in 2021. Thus, the company could increase its investment program in 2021 by 16% compared to 2020. These funds are used to modernize and develop the city's energy infrastructure in accordance with the needs of its residents.
