DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids recalls 8 simple rules of electrical safety for children
DTEK is a conscious, reliable company that cares about the safety and comfort of its customers. As the summer time starts, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids reminds people with children that they need to talk to their kids about safety, especially about how to handle electrical appliances and being near power facilities safely.
“When we take off synthetic or woolen clothes, pet a cat and touch something metallic, we feel tingling on our fingertips. This is the most common example of the electricity effect on a person in everyday life. This happens because the human body can accumulate static electrical energy and discharge when in contact with other objects,” - says Petr Vozny, Head of the Health and Safety Department at DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.” - The same electric current flows in power lines, sockets and household appliances that are in every home, but it is stronger hundreds, and sometimes thousands of times than static electricity. An electric shock like this is very dangerous for each of us."
The head of the Health and Safety Department at DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids believes that now, when the children are on summer holidays, it is high time to remind them about the simple rules of electrical safety:
- Do not touch bare wires and cables. Remember that electric current is odorless and colorless.
- Always hold the plug when unplugging it. Never pull on the cord or take it with wet hands.
- Check if electrical appliances are unplugged before cleaning them.
- Keep away from distribution boards, transformers, and other energy objects. Usually they are marked with a special sign in the form of a yellow triangle with a lightning bolt on a yellow background.
- Keep a safe distance from power lines. Do not play underneath them or climb poles.
- Do not touch trees if their branches are in contact with power lines. Do not pluck or rock the branches.
- Do not approach yourself and do not let others come close to broken wires closer than 8 meters. Immediately inform a power company about it.
- If you find yourself in an 8-meter step voltage zone near a broken wire, get out of there by moving your feet along the ground, while not lifting one from the other;
DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids also reminds that if you see broken wires, damaged electrical poles, open doors of electrical installations or the absence of locks at transformer substations, please, inform the DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids Contact Center: for landline phones (044) 459-07-40, for mobile phones (067) 495-70-40, (099) 495-70-40, (093) 495-70-40 (according to the tariffs of your telecom operators).
