DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids ensures stable power supply for COVID-19 patients
DTEK is a reliable partner of the society. Uninterruptible power supply in the context of combating the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the focus areas of DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.
“This is the second check that we have initiated since the start of the pandemic to avoid blackouts in medical facilities with intensive care. Our specialists did the maintenance at power facilities, provided backup power sources where needed, cleared the vegetation near power lines to avoid failures. In general, our specialists checked the power grids that power 26 healthcare centers that treat patients COVID-19 in the Kyiv region. We eliminated potential risks on our equipment that could entail blackout in 7 hospitals,” says Vitaliy Shaida, Head of DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.
As of early December 2021, the power grids operated by DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids fully comply with the technical standards for the power supply quality. However, the uninterrupted power supply in medical facilities also depends on the in-hospital networks health. We ask the heads of medical facilities to check of their internal power network and promptly eliminate equipment malfunctions, if any.
At the same time, the new wave of the pandemic led to situations when there are not enough beds in medical facilities available to treat patients in serious condition. Those who do not have a spot in a medical facility are connected to oxygen at home. DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids recognizes this, and thus adjusts the routine maintenance schedules where seriously ill patients, connected to oxygen, live.
“Scheduled maintenances are the key to the stable functioning of the entire energy system in the Kyiv region. But we also recognize at for seriously ill patients connected to medical equipment at home, a stable supply of electricity is worth the weight of their lives. That is why we are temporarily changing our routine maintenance schedules where people need uninterrupted power supply,” says Vitaliy Shaida.
DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids is currently collecting addresses of patients who need an uninterrupted power supply. We are looking to cooperate with hospitals, city and regional administrations, charitable and public organizations that have information about patients connected to oxygen at home for cooperation.
