In the Bortnychi district of Kyiv, DTEK Kyiv Grids specialists installed a protective platform for stork nest, 15th in the capital. Despite the war, energy workers continue to care about protection of biodiversity and environment. The works are conducted within the framework of the #EnergyWings project, directed at protection and preservation of the white stork population. It complies with ESG principles and UN Global Compact Sustainable Development Goal No.15 – “Preservation of the earth eco systems”.
DTEK Kyiv Grids installed 15 safe platforms for stork nests

In autumn 2024, DTEK Kyiv Grids specialists installed four protective platforms for stork nests – special steel baskets that are attached to the pole above the wires. This way, the structure helps protect the birds from possible electrocution, and customers of the company – from emergencies that may be caused by sliding of nests on the wire.

“The storks do not often choose large loud megapolises as their homes. Nevertheless, they frequently build their nests in Kyiv. Including on the poles. In order not to expose the birds to the danger of electrocution, we reinforce them with special protective platforms. This year, we have already installed four of those. Since 2019, we have installed a total of 15 such structures. The plan is to install more,” – noted Denys Bondar, CEO at DTEK Kyiv Grids.

During inspection of the overhead lines, specialists of the company register the poles, where the storks have built their nests. Additionally, residents of the capital inform about such cases. After the birds fly south, emergency nests are reinforced with protective platforms.

The first protective structure in Kyiv appeared in Pyrohiv of the Holosiivskyi district in 2019. There are also reinforced nests in Troieshchyna, Korchuvate and Bortnychi.

As previously informed, DTEK Kyiv Grids employees took part in the World Cleanup Day, which annually unites over 210 countries in the fight against waste. In September, employees of the company cleaned more than 31,000 square meters of the production sites and offices of the enterprise, collecting more than 24 tons of waste. 120 employees took part in the event.
