DTEK Kyiv Grids to join a new expert association for European DSOs – EU DSO Entity

DTEK Kyiv Grids, which is a part of DTEK Grids, is officially to join a new association for the European Distribution System Operators (DSOs) — EU DSO Entity. The EU DSO Entity is an expert entity aiming to strengthen the cooperation between DSOs at European level. It has been legally set up by the Electricity Regulation (EU) 2019/943. DTEK Kyiv Grids will take an active part in the cooperation within the EU DSO Entity activities and initiatives, as well as regular sharing of the experience.

“It is a great step forward for DTEK Grids, as we are going to become a member of the European energy community. This membership will provide us with a unique opportunity to share experience, vision, and innovations with our European colleagues. We look forward to the implementation of the joint partnership projects and ESG initiatives, which goes in line with our 2030 Strategy. We are honored to represent the Eastern European region with its features and problems, to find better solutions together and learn from each other,” says Ivan Geliukh, DTEK Grids CEO.

EU DSO Entity promotes cooperation between all European DSOs regardless their size and type. The main idea is working for the common European interest. The entity does not aim at representing particular policy, while focusing on technical issues in a neutral manner. The EU DSO Entity’s main tasks are to promote the optimal and coordinated operation and planning of DSO/TSO networks, consultation on Guidelines, and participation in the adaptation of Network Codes relevant for DSO grids.

Reference:

DTEK Grids is developing electricity distribution and grid operation businesses in Kyiv city, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Odessa regions. The company serves 5.4 million households and 150,000 enterprises.

DTEK Grids is a part of DTEK Group, the largest private investor in Ukraine's energy sector. The company constantly integrates into a broad cooperation with European energy companies and institutions, being a member of E.DSO and ECDSO-E as of 2018.

The EU DSO Entity is a new association for the European Distribution System Operators (DSOs) that has been formally established by the Electricity Regulation (EU) 2019/943 “in order to increase efficiencies in the electricity distribution networks in the Union and to ensure close cooperation with transmission system operators and the ENTSO for Electricity.”

EU DSO Entity is intended to be an expert entity working for the common Union interest and to increase efficiencies in the electricity distribution networks in the Union while ensuring close cooperation with transmission system operators (TSOs) and the ENTSO for Electricity (ENTSO-e). Notably, the EU DSO Entity will be a genuine counterpart to ENTSO-e on the drafting of EU regulation in the form of Network Codes affecting distribution matters.

The creation of the EU DSO Entity was warmly welcomed by the DSOs, which are taking centre stage in the energy transition that couples decentralisation and digitalisation with decarbonisation. This meaningful step contributes to the coordinated planning and operation of distribution and transmission systems in the electricity sector.
