DTEK Odesa Grids upgrade the energy infrastructure in Kiliya District
About 52 thousand people live in the Kiliysky district of Odesa Region, half of them in the city of Kiliya. There are a shipyard and a river port in the city, which is the main transportation gateway between the Black Sea and Danube. The industry of the region is represented by enterprises of mining, food industry, agricultural products processing, and mechanical engineering. The region is also famous for its rice plantations. To ensure the operation of enterprises and household consumers with a reliable power supply, DTEK Odesa Grids specialists installed a 250 kVA unloading transformer substation in Kiliya.
“DTEK is a responsible and reliable company, we are upgrading the grids and energy infrastructure of Odesa Region. In 2020, we have invested more than UAH 2.3 million in the Kiliysky District power grids under repair and investment programs. In 2020, power engineers have overhauled 31 km of 10 kV overhead lines and 54 km of 0.4 kV overhead lines,” says Olexander Fomenko, DTEK Odesa Grids CEO.
According to the head of the company, power engineers have replaced 284 poles on 0.4 kV overhead lines and installed an additional 19 ones over the past ten months. Replaced 11 poles of 10 kV overhead lines, plus installed three more. These steps are crucial to prevent emergency shutdowns caused by bad weather. Moreover, the power engineers have cleared almost 75 km of routes from tree branches, 20 km of which are directly through the city of Kiliya. Through such measures, customers have high-quality and reliably power supply.
The company's strategy includes the complete replacement of 0.4 kV overhead lines with a self-supporting insulated wire until 2030. This wire is unique, it is made of sewn polyethylene. This is an advanced technology that allows the line to serve for at least 30 years. The new cable has a larger cross-section and therefore a higher capacity. Thus, the growing demand for power of the Kiliyskiy District residents is met for many years to come.
From June 2019 to October 2020, DTEK Odesa Grids have already replaced 214.7 km of bare wire with self-supporting insulated wire, including 28.4 km in Odesa and 186.3 km in Odesa Region, 6.4 km of which are in the Kiliya District.
