DTEK Odesa Grids recalls the simple rules of electrical safety for children

DTEK Odesa Grids draws parents' attention to the need to teach children about electrical safety. These rules are essential because they can save lives and health of children, especially now when they are on long summer vacations.

DTEK is a conscious and reliable company that cares about the safety and comfort of its customers. As the summertime starts, DTEK Odesa Grids reminds people with children that they need to talk to their kids about safety, especially about how to handle electrical appliances and being near power facilities safely.

We deal with electric current every day in our life. DTEK Odesa Grids encourages parents to remind their children of safety rules. You should start with the basic rules, like you should not fill the devices connected to the power grid with water, do not touch with wet hands and wipe with a damp cloth electrical cables, sockets, switches and other electrical appliances that are plugged in. At first glance, everything is clear, but following these rules can save the lives of both adults and children,” says Oleksandr Fomenko, CEO of DTEK Odesa Grids.

DTEK Odesa Grids believes it is high time to remind them about the simple rules of electrical safety:

  • Do not touch bare wires and cables. Remember that electric current is odorless and colorless;
  • Always hold the plug when unplugging it. Never pull on the cord or take it with wet hands;
  • Check if electrical appliances are unplugged before cleaning them;
  • Keep away from distribution boards, transformers, and other energy objects. Usually they are marked with a special sign in the form of a yellow triangle with a lightning bolt on a yellow background;
  • Keep a safe distance from power lines. Do not play underneath them or climb poles;
  • Do not touch trees if their branches are in contact with power lines. Do not pluck or rock the branches;
  • Do not approach yourself and do not let others come close to broken wires closer than 8 meters. Immediately inform a power company about it;
  • If you find yourself in an 8-meter step voltage zone near a broken wire, get out of there by moving your feet along the ground, while not lifting one from the other;

DTEK Odesa Grids also reminds that if you see broken wires, damaged poles, open doors of electrical installations or no locks on transformer substations, please, inform the DTEK Odesa Grids Contact Center at (048) 705 90 90, (068) 750 90 90, (095) 750 90 90, chatbot on Viber or Telegram. Or you can inform the company through the Line of Light mobile app or leave a message on Facebook or Instagram official pages.
