DTEK Odesa Grids keeps connecting customers to the reconstructed Chumka substation: both the maternity clinic and Polytechnic University have already been connected
“DTEK is a reliable and conscious company that serves the Ukraine’s interests. We started the Chumka substation reconstruction in 2017, and plan to complete these works this year. We have invested UAH 456 million into this project. Now most of the streets located in the coastal area of the city have already been reconnected,” says Oleksandr Fomenko, CEO at DTEK Odesa Grids.
The company has already connected the customers to the substation who live within the Shevchenko and Gagarina avenue, Frantzusky boulevard, streets of Dovzhenko, Puskinskaya, Panteleimonovskaya, Kanatna, Bolshaya Arnautska. Apart from the maternity clinic and Odesa National Polytechnic University, the power engineers have already reconnected Odesa State Regional Administration, Odesa Tram and Trolley Head Office, etc.
The company has replaced two power transformers with the present-day ones of 80MVA capacity and 110/35/6 kV voltage. This will offer additional opportunities to develop the infrastructure of the historical part of the city and the increase the energy recourses for 34,971 customers.
Also, the telemechanics, communication and automated system for commercial electricity metering have been established. This will ensure the fully remote management of the installed equipment and reduce the emergency response time. There will be no need for a dispatcher to send a crew to the substation to reconnect or connect/disconnect customers.
The company installed vacuum switchers on the reconstructed Chumka substation that are environmentally friendly. The previous generation substations had oil switchers. These switchers contained oil products that harmed the environment when they got into water or soil. The vacuum switchers are harmless to the environment and follow the highest fire safety standards.
Let us recall that in 2021 DTEK Odesa Grids earmarks more than UAH 483 mln to renew the Odesa networks and the equipment, which supports its operation. These funds will be used to reconstruct the current transformer substations and build new ones, as well as cable and overhead lines. The company is doing this to enhance the quality and reliability of power supply for half a million customers.
