DTEK Odesa Grids will reinforce 30 stork nests on the electric poles within the framework of the DTEK Grids project #EnergyWings
Despite the war, Distribution System Operator DTEK Odesa Grids does not stop taking care of preservation of environment and protection of storks in the Odesa region. In September-October 2022, the company will install at least 30 protective platforms on the electric poles, where storks have built their nests. This will help prevent falling of nests on the grids, thus protecting birds from electrocution and company’s customers from blackouts. Installation of platforms will be carried out within the framework of the DTEK Grids project #EnergyWings.
“DTEK continues to develop grids infrastructure using modern digital technologies and based on sustainable development principles. This year, within the framework of the #EnergyWings project we will reinforce 30 stork nests on electric poles to make them withstand any bad weather and to ensure birds safety. Thus, we will ensure uninterrupted power supply of our customers, as we will protect the grids from accidents, caused by nests falling on wires. Overall, we have already reinforced 145 nests and protected at least 725 birds over the past 2 years. We are sure that as soon as next year the storks shall return to their safe nests to create families and bring up nestlings under the peaceful Ukrainian sky,” – underscored the company.
Opinion leaders and caring citizens usually help energy workers to install protective platforms.
“I am very glad to be part of such a large and bright environmental educational project #EnergyWings. Its main goal is to protect and preserve population of white stork, despite the challenges of the war. Together with the entire team of our charity fund, we will be taking care of the nest that we helped reinforce and we will definitely visit the storks in spring. I believe that next year birds will return under the peaceful Ukrainian sky, bringing peace to our land with them,” – shared Tetiana Cherevata, head of the Oleksandr Zholobiv charity fund.
Last year, personalized platforms have been installed by Natalia Delieva, head of the public organization “Association of Women of Ukraine “Diya”, director of charity organization “First Theatrical Charity Fund”, Serhii Kurochkin, head of the Odesa department of Ukrainian Birds Protection Society and Pavlo Bulanovych, director of the Ecology and Natural Resources Department of the Odesa Regional State Administration.
Let us remind that in 2022, project #EnergyWings has won an international PR contest IPRA. DTEK Grids became the only company from Ukraine that won, while the project also received a special prize for contribution to meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
