“DTEK continues to develop the grids, using modern digital technologies and based on the sustainable development principles. The company replaces potentially environmentally hazardous equipment with the modern and eco-friendly. In particular, since the beginning of year we have already installed almost 2000 LED lamps in place of the mercury-containing ones and we plan to install 500 more by the end of the year,” – noted the company.

Despite the difficult situation in the country due to the war, DTEK Kyiv Grids does not stop caring about environment. Currently, the company does not purchase luminescent mercury-containing lamps. It sends end of life lamps for disposal, installing LEDs instead.

The company has equipped special sites for temporary storage of waste mercury-containing devices, its accumulation and preparation for hand over for disposal. Personnel undergoes training in handling, including such hazardous waste as mercury-containing lighting devices.

DTEK Kyiv Grids has singed agreements with specialized enterprises that take waste mercury-containing lamps. These enterprises dispose them in accordance with environmental regulations, so the hazardous substance does not enter the environment and does no harm to people and nature. Since the beginning of the year, the company has already sent 579 mercury-containing lamps for disposal and will send 600 more by the end of the year.

As informed earlier, since the beginning of 2022 DTEK Kyiv Grids has sent over 26 tons of production waste for disposal and recycling for further reuse. This waste will be used as raw material for production of goods by other enterprises.
