Careers in the energy sector: DTEK Kyiv Region Grids launched a dual education for students

DTEK Kyiv Region Grids has launched a dual education project for students who have embraced a profession in power engineering. The program is already being implemented in partnership with five educational institutions, such as Tarashchansky State Technical and Economic and Legal College, Polissia National University (Zhitomir), Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Nemishaiv Agrotechnical College, and the National University of Bioresources and Environmental Management of Ukraine. The company employs 10 students under the program. It is a good opportunity for them to combine study with work.

The dual learning format is popular all over the world these days. It provides for a combination of university studies and work at an enterprise. Therefore, a student can get theoretical knowledge and immediately apply it in practice at work.

“DTEK is a reliable company; we care of Ukraine’s future and give our support to young talented people. Today, power grids create the basis for other areas of energy – the development of e-transport, use of wind, solar, water, and other alternative sources of energy. Therefore, the role of grids is changing rapidly. They become automatic and "smart", and being an energy engineer to manage them is no less prestigious and interesting than being an IT specialist, for example. Now we have signed partnership agreements with five universities, and employed 10 students. This is an excellent opportunity for young people to start a career at DTEK,” said Vitalii Shaida, DTEK Kyiv Region Grids CEO.

Fourteen days at the enterprise, and the rest of the month at university. Dmytro Vichuzhanin, a 4th-year student at National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine (NUBiP) is undertaking such learning program now. Such a program is provided for in the dual education format.

“I learned more about the dual form of education from the dean of our faculty; he helped to coordinate everything with the company. Now I have a great opportunity to combine study with work. I have been working in the company since August 2020 as an electrician for the operation of distribution networks of the Network Accounting Center. I work on a rotational basis for 14 days, and study remotely due to quarantine restrictions. We carry out routine and unscheduled electrical network inspections, thanks to which they are repaired on time, and they work stably. In my opinion, this program gives a chance to gain precious experience in practice and combine studies at a higher educational institution,” says Dmytro Vichuzhanin.

Thanks to the dual form of education, students get official employment and wages, and are provided with overalls and medical insurance, like all other company employees. An experienced mentor is assigned to each of them, who helps to learn nuts and bolts of the profession. After completing their studies, university graduates can continue to work in the company if there are vacancies, recommendations from mentors, and their immediate supervisors.

The company is open for cooperation with all specialized educational institutions in Kyiv and the region.

You can apply for dual education through a group curator at the university. You can also find out more information at the Personnel Training and Development Center of DTEK Kyiv Region Grids, phone +380672610383, +380950414879.
