Career opportunities for youth: DTEK Dnipro Grids expands a work-study program for students

In the 2020-2021 school year, DTEK Dnipro Grids is implementing a dual education program in partnership with 6 educational institutions. These are NTU Dnipro Polytechnic, Dnipro State College of Energy and Information Technologies, Kamensk State Energy College, Ukrainian Polytechnic College of State University of Economics and Technology, Professional College of Rocket and Space Engineering DNU and Polytechnic College of Kryvyi Rih National University. The company employs 31 students under the dual education program.

Students who participate in the dual training program of DTEK Dnipro Grids undergo training in the structural divisions of the company and get a job in their specialty. Students study and hold positions of an electrician and an electrician for the switchgear equipment maintenance. A professional mentor is assigned to each program participant who guides at all stages of the practical part of the training. We have concluded tripartite agreements with students for receiving education in a dual form, as well as fixed-term employment agreements. They receive an official salary monthly, and have benefits provided for the company's employees.

“DTEK Dnipro Grids is a conscious and reliable company that cares about the future of Ukraine and supports talented youth. Last school year, 25 students took part in the dual education program. Of these, 15 young specialists successfully completed their training and continued to work in the company full time. In 2020-2021, we expanded the project and increased the number of participants. Now we are training 31 students. At the end of the school year, we will also offer employment to successful young professionals,” - says Andrii Tereschiuk, DTEK Dnipro Grids CEO.

The key advantage of dual education is that it provides 70% of practice in the enterprise and 30% of theory in the educational institution. The program is based on the consolidation of the acquired knowledge in real job conditions. Dual education prepares future employees considering the needs of the employer. After graduation, students are adapted and know how to work with the equipment of a particular enterprise. Dmytro Sidorov is one of the participants of the dual program in DTEK Dnipro Grids, he has been successfully working and studying in the company for more than a year.

“Now I am a 4th year student at the Kamensk State Power Engineering College. And at the same time, I work as an electrician for the distribution networks operation in the Pyatikhatskaya Distribution Networks. I chose the dual form because it is a unique opportunity to study and consolidate theory in practice at the enterprise, to receive a salary. And in the future - to build a career at DTEK,” says Dmytro.

The company plans to take about 25 more students under the dual program in the future 2021-2022 school year. In order to take part in the dual training program, a student should be getting an education in an energy-related specialty, be a 3-4 year student of one of the educational institutions that has entered into an agreement with the company, fill out a questionnaire and be pre-qualified.
