Red Alert of Fire Hazard. DTEK Dnipro Grids Warns to Take Utmost Care and Comply with Basic Electric Safety Rules

From the beginning of July in Dnipropetrovsk region, the highest – the 5th – fire hazard rating has been announced due to the anomalous hot weather conditions. The specialists of DTEK Dnipro Grids ask residents to take utmost care: not to build fires, not to burn dry grass and also to observe safety rules near power facilities. Even a single spark can lead to a fire with irreversible consequences.

In dry and windy weather, the risk of fires and large fires increases significantly. Caring for the safety and comfort of residents, DTEK Dnipro Grids warns: careless handling of fire and burning dead wood in open areas can lead to large-scale damage to overhead power lines and electric substations. And, as a consequence, to the power supply shutdown in entire settlements and enterprises, and to disruption of normal living conditions of the region.

Cases of this kind have already taken place in Kyiv region, where due to burning of dry grass by unknown persons and falling of trees in fire zones, 10 kV lines were repeatedly damaged. The residents of entire villages and summer settlements were left without electricity.

Also, forest and steppe fires lead to negative consequences for ecosystems, as well as human life and health. During high-intensity combustion of vegetation (forest, steppe), the concentration of carbon monoxide gas as compared to the background content in the air increases by almost 30 times, methane – twice, carbon dioxide – by 8%.

DTEK Dnipro Grids makes sure that the supplied energy is not only reliable, but also safe. And reminds of the safety rules near power facilities:

  • it is strictly forbidden to build fires, burn stubble, leave flammable materials and keep garbage near power lines and transformer substations,
  • when choosing a place for outdoor recreation, pay attention to closeness to power facilities. It should be behind the line of the security zone of electric grids – 25 meters on both sides;
  • if you find broken or sagging or fallen to the ground wires, open doors and hatches of electric equipment, do not approach them and contact the call center of DTEK Dnipro Grids: (056) 790 99 00, (066) 790 99 00, (067) 790 99 00 or on Facebook;

Attention and adherence to basic electric safety rules can save lives and health.
