DTEK Grids DSOs to ensure stable power supply for patients with COVID-19

DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators recognize the importance of a stable electrical supply to hospitals where patients with COVID-19 are treated. We have initiated a number of inspections of the electrical equipment supplying 202 medical centers, having eliminated potential power outage risks in 26 of them. The DTEK Grids also adjusts the maintenance schedule in those areas where customers connected to oxygen concentrators live.

“DTEK is a reliable partner of the society. Uninterrupted power supply to hospital facilities is the top priority of our enterprises in their efforts to help counter the spread of Covid-19. Our energy workers carried out the power lines and substations maintenance, provided backup power sources where it was needed, cleared power lines from greenery to avoid any potential failure. This is the second inspection that Distribution System Operators initiated since the start of the pandemic. We are doing this to avoid power outages in hospital facilities with intensive care. In general, our people checked the power grids supplying 202 treatment centers for COVID-19 patients,” says Ivan Geliukh, CEO for DTEK Grids.

Thus, the repairs were done in 3 hospitals in the Odesa region, 11 hospitals in the Donetsk region, 5 hospitals in the Dnipropetrovsk region and 7 hospitals in the Kyiv region. As of November 2021, the power grids managed by the DTEK Grids DSOs fully comply with the technical standards for the power supply quality. However, the uninterrupted electricity supply in hospitals also depends on the health of the inner networks. The heads of hospitals are required to check the internal power networks and, if any deviation is identified, they need to eliminate any malfunctions as soon as possible.

At the same time, due to the new wave of the pandemic, there are not enough beds in hospitals to treat patients in serious condition. Some people are connected to oxygen concentrators at home. Recognizing this situation, DSOs, which are part of the DTEK Grids Operating Holding, adjust the maintenance schedules where seriously ill patients, connected to oxygen concentrators, live.

“We recognize that a stable supply of electricity for seriously ill patients connected to medical equipment at home is as valuable as their lives. That is why we are temporarily changing our maintenance schedules for those areas where people need uninterrupted power supply,'' says Ivan Geliukh, CEO for DTEK Grids. “Scheduled maintenances are an important part of our work. We do them to improve the network condition and prevent emergency power outages. In the meantime, we are adjusting our business processes, which is not convenient for the company, but vital for people."

DTEK Grids DSOs now independently collects the addresses of patients who need an uninterrupted power supply. We invite hospitals, city and regional administrations, charitable and public organizations that have information about patients who are connected to concentrators at home for cooperation.

To contact the company on such cooperation, please, fill out a form on the DSO websites:

We have quite a successful cooperation established in the Odesa region. On October 29, DTEK Odesa Grids began cooperation with the Monsters Corporation charitable foundation and daily receives information about the citizens connected to oxygen concentrators at home. As of November 15, more than 300 addresses were noted in the Odesa region, where the company adjusts their maintenance schedule.
