Under fire for the sake of light: energy workers of DTEK Donetsk Grids restored almost 7,000 km of lines during the two years of full-scale war
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, DTEK Donetsk Grids energy workers have restored operation of 2,500 facilities, damaged due to hostilities. Overhead power lines are the ones most often destroyed by shelling. They suffer from direct hits, falling of fragments of projectiles and drones. Energy workers had to repair some of them on dozens of occasions. Energy workers repaired a “record holder” line on one of the hottest directions almost 100 times.
“3-5 high-voltage lines are being damaged in the Donetsk region every day. Dozens – in the distribution grid. We continue to do everything possible to restore the energy infrastructure, often close to the frontline and under fire. Nearly 70 crews of energy workers are working on this on the daily basis. We are doing everything possible to provide residents of the region with electricity even in the conditions of constant attacks on the energy system,” – the company noted.
In particular, despite active hostilities in the Donetsk region, in 2023 energy workers were able to restore electricity to more than 20 de-occupied settlements of Lyman and Sviatohirsk urban communities, where more than 70% of company’s power facilities were damaged. There, energy workers had to restore more than 370 kilometers of destroyed power lines.
Since February 24, 2022, specialists of the energy company have restored electricity to homes of more than 7 mln* families in the Donetsk region.
Unfortunately, during the two years of full-scale invasion, 8 employees of DTEK Donetsk Grids were wounded while restoring electricity to the residents of the Donetsk region.
* considering that some settlements had electricity restored to them on dozens of occasions.
