Reconstruction of Gostomel 110/10 kV substation is ongoing: DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids to complete 70% of the scheduled works
DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids continues reconstruction of 110/10 kV Gostomel substation per the schedule. The company has already invested over UAH 50 million in the project and completed 70% of all planned works. The total cost of the project is UAH 108 million. The equipment will be tested and setup in September this year, and from October the substation will be fully operational.
"DTEK is a reliable and conscious company that cares about the future of Ukraine. The Gostomel substation is an indispensable facility for the stable energy supply of more than 9,000 DTEK customers. Kyiv regional networks important infrastructure facilities - Antonov International Airport and Vetropack glass plant. The additional capacity in this region will contribute to the social and economic development of the community,” says Vitalii Shayda, General Director of DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.
At the 110/10 kV Gostomel substation, the company replaced 110 kV portable current transformers, built distribution and general substation control points. The installation of two new 110/10 kV power transformers with a capacity of 25 MW each and 110 kV SF6 circuit breakers is currently being completed. To prevent oil spills and entering the soil, a new oil collector is being built and its oil receivers are being reconstructed. The next step is the installation of four arc-quenching reactors, reconstruction of relay protection, remote control, etc.
Thanks to the reconstruction, the substation equipment will be working in normal operation. After all, the old power transformers built in 1982 are working at the limit of their capabilities. They cannot guarantee the stability of energy supply in the region, which doubled in the last 8 years to 20 MW. If one of the transformers is disconnected, the load on the other can increase by more than 150% and the protective automation will cause power cuts to some customers. If the second transformer is disconnected during the emergency repair, the whole area supplied by the 110/10 kV substation Gostomel will be left without power.
When the reconstruction is complete, up to 60% of the backup transformer capacity will be available at the Gostomel power center, which will ensure a stable energy supply to the company’s customers, the possibility of connecting new and increasing the capacity of existing facilities.

As previously reported, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids will earmark UAH 614 million to upgrade the Kyiv region's electricity infrastructure in 2021.
