DTEK Grids Dual Education project, which involves DTEK Odesa Grids, has been recognized as a successful example of overcoming barriers to youth employment and solving the problem of personnel shortage in industrial specialties, therefore it is recommended for study by other Ukrainian companies. You can now learn more about the DTEK Grids Dual Education project on the public portal for entrepreneurs ‘Diia.Business’.

“DTEK is a reliable and conscious company that cares about the future of Ukraine and supports talented youth. In 2021-2022, the company pursues the dual training program under which 16 students from industry-specific schools of Odesa and the region will be involved. A mentor will be assigned to each participant of the program, who will support a student at all stages of the practical training. Students will be able to study and practice as an electrician, engineer, specialist, electrical fitter and get the second electrical safety category, work with specialized equipment,” says Oleksander Fomenko, Director General at DTEK Odesa Grids.

In the 2020-2021 school year, 21 students were trained at DTEK Odesa Grids under the dual education program. Since 2020, the company has been cooperating with the Odesa National Polytechnic University, the Odesa National Academy of Food Technologies, the Mechanical and Technological Specialized College of the Odesa National Academy of Food Technologies, the Specialized Institute of Oil and Gas Technologies, Engineering and Service Infrastructure of the Odesa National Academy of Food Technologies, the Izmail Agrotechnical College. In the 2020-2021 school year, 21 students concluded tripartite contracts for dual education, 10 of them are already employed in the company and have employment contracts. They get an official salary and a benefits package that is available to all employees of DTEK Odesa Grids.

Dual students gain knowledge per an individual program, under which they spend thirty percent of their time in classrooms at the university and dedicate seventy percent of their time to practice their skills in a real enterprise. The program is based on the consolidation of the acquired knowledge in production conditions. Dual education prepares future employees according to the needs of the employer. After graduation, students are adapted and know how to work with the equipment of a particular enterprise.

Ekaterina Koval, a participant in the DTEK Odesa Grids dual program, has successfully completed her studies and is now working for the company.

“I chose the dual form of training because it is a unique opportunity to get my first work experience during the training period, and, which is important, to have both a scholarship and a salary. During training, we studied labor safety, rules for the operation of electrical protective equipment, etc. Today I polish this knowledge as an electrician. I am convinced that working at DTEK is a good start to my career,” says Yekaterina Koval, an electrician for the distribution networks operation.

In order to become a participant in the DTEK Odesa Grids dual training program in the future 2021-2022 school year, a student should be getting an education in a specialty related to energy, be a graduate student in one of the educational institutions that concluded an agreement with the company, fill out a questionnaire and go through selection.
