Automation, improvement of the grids technical condition, construction and reconstruction of substations were the main development directions of energy infrastructure in Odesa Region over the past year. DTEK Odesa Grids have already completed reconstruction of two substations, and have started construction of the first 110/20 kV closed-type substation in Ukraine.
Reconstructed substations and upgraded technical condition of grids: DTEK presents its annual progress of work in Odesa and the region

In May 2019, DTEK Odesa Grids (formerly Odessaoblenergo) became part of DTEK. Then DTEK Grids analyzed the state, and designed a strategic plan for the power grids infrastructure development of Odesa Region.

DTEK serves the interests of Ukraine, ensures the reliability of power supply and the comfort of its customers. Over this year, we have already completed the reconstruction of two substations named Yuvileyna and Bolhrad in the south of the region, upgraded Maryniv andIllinka substations in Bilyaiv District, and we are reconstructing Chumka and Krymskaya substations”, - says Oleksandr Fomenko, DTEK Odesa Grids Director General.

Activities are ongoing these days. Thus, the company plans to build three new substations and to reconstruct 11 existing ones by the end of next year. They will not only improve the power supply quality, but will also ensure that we meet the growing demand for electricity within the entire region.

To prevent a power shortage in Kyivsky District of Odesa, construction of a new substation named Chubaivka has started. This will be the first closed-type substation in Ukraine of 110/20 kV voltage. Commissioning of such substation will provide an additional 52 MW to connect to electricity about 5000 new apartments in residential complexes of the microdistrict under construction,” - says Oleksandr Fomenko, DTEK Odesa Grids Director General.

In a little over a year, DTEK Odesa Grids power engineers implemented 162 modernization projects on medium and low voltage networks. The company allocated UAH 683 million to do this. Therefore, Odesa power engineers increase the reliability of power lines and equipment, which directly feed houses of Odesa and the region residents.

Automation and digitalization have become one of the priority areas for the power grids infrastructure development. The company has launched a project on introduction of a new automated dispatch control system SCADA. It is an important part of the energy infrastructure transformation into the Smart Grid. This software package will predict possible accidents, and will give options for their solution. This will significantly improve the quality of power supply and, in the long term, will reduce the time when Odesa and the region residents have no electricity. The project is designed for 4 years (2021-2024). Its total cost will be about UAH 80 million.

In addition, the company has begun a transportation fleet renewal that lacked such renovation for decades.

The high wear of cars and tractors often led to transport downtime caused failures, and, therefore, to a decrease in the field crews performance. We have purchased 57 units of auto and special equipment, which will allow us to promptly service the power grids, provide customers with high-quality services, and reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere,” says Oleksandr Fomenko.

DTEK Odesa Grids serve the interests of Ukraine, share the values of society and understand that availability of a permanent and uninterrupted power supply is a key to safety and comfort of the region's residents.
