DTEK Dnipro Grids restores power supply after a storm

Thermal power generation20 August 2021
Rough weather is hitting the Dnipropetrovsk region with a squall wind, downpours, and hail. Such weather caused line damage and massive power cuts. The Novomoskovsk district witnessed the most blackouts. DTEK Dnipro Grids is on full alert to return power to every home.

Thunderstorms and gales of wind caused blackouts and breaks of 24 lines and 282 transformer substations. Most of the blackouts were in Novomoskovsk and partly in the Dnipro districts. Because of bad weather, 24 villages, mostly in Nikopol and Sinelnikovsky districts, are now partially without power. The energy workers are now eliminating the damage caused by a major accident at a transformer substation on Sukhomlinskaya Street in the village of Slobozhansky. A 10 MVA power transformer failed here. Measures are taken to switch customers to other power sources.

Because of such challenging weather conditions, our DTEK Dnipro Grids emergency crews have been switched to high alert and are working 24/7 to restore the damaged areas of lines and equipment.

“DTEK is a reliable and conscious company that cares about its customers. Now more than 30 emergency teams, which number about 100 specialists and 37 pieces of equipment, are working to restore the power supply. We plan to complete the main scope of work by the end of the day. Our specialists have been switched to full alert and are ready for a new wave of severe weather, which, according to forecasters, is waiting for us today,” says Andrey Tereshchuk, General Director at DTEK Dnipro Grids.

According to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology, thunderstorms, and wind gusts of 15-20 m/s are expected in Dnipro and the region on August 20. Category 1 Hazard (yellow) was declared in the region.

Below DTEK Dnipro Grids shares some of the electrical safety rules:

  • In case of strong wind, you should not be near power lines;
  • Do not approach broken wires closer than 8-12 meters and in no case touch it;
  • If you see wires that have fallen to the ground, broken or sagging wires, open doors and hatches of electrical installations, as well as damaged poles, please, notify our call center either through the feedback form on the website, over phones (056/066/067) 790 99 00, our Facebook page or Viber and Telegram;

Information about outages can be checked using the DTEK Dnipro Grids chatbot on Viber and Telegram, as well as on the company's website in the section Power cuts. If your address is there, meaning that our energy workers know about the power cut. If you could not find your address there, please, inform the DTEK Dnipro Grids call center.
