The Light Will Not Be Switched Off for Kyiv Residents of Demiivka. DTEK Kyiv Grids Commenced Reconstruction of Local Distribution Unit

By the end of the year, DTEK Kyiv Grids will completely retrofit the distribution unit No. 187 in Demiivka. The electric equipment will be upgraded, and modern electronic diagnostic, communication and control systems will be installed. This will improve the quality and reliability of power supply to customers of Holosieve district of the capital.

During the retrofitting of DU-187 situated at 4, Nauky Avenue, distribution equipment bays, circuit breakers and auxiliary transformers will be replaced. The distribution unit will be equipped with operative current cabinets, modern remote control systems (telemechanics), metering and communications, DC boards, security alarms and electric equipment.

Our company is investing more than eight million hryvnias in works on DU-187. As a result we will enhance reliability of power supply to customers residing at the capital’s Nauky Avenue and in the whole Demiivka. DTEK is a reliable partner of the society. We are systematically upgrading the energy infrastructure of Kyiv and making it more reliable and modern,” – said Maris Kunickis, CEO of DTEK Kyiv Grids.

The necessity to retrofit the distribution unit is made by its obsoleting, physical wear and inability to cope with the increasing needs of customers.

DU-187 was commissioned in 1978. Its design has never accounted for the prospective increase in load resulting from active development of this area. Thus, the power equipment has been constantly operating in state of exceeding the allowable load limit. This led to recurring automatic disconnection of customers from the grid and, accordingly, to complaints.

The started works will allow to solve the existing problems and provide Kyiv residents with a reliable power source. The preparatory stage of works is now being finished at the facility. The actual installation of new equipment will begin in August and will last until the end of the year.

As it was reported previously, DTEK Kyiv Grids will implement 34 retrofit projects to upgrade medium- and low-voltage grids throughout 2020. Thus, the capital’s power supplying company will improve the reliability of power lines and equipment directly involved in supplying electricity to the citizens of Kyiv.
