Faults will be eliminated faster: DTEK Dnipro Grids digital dispatch center launched in Dnipro
The control room is designed for 24 specialists working together. It is equipped with a modern control system, software and uninterrupted communication devices that will ensure that requests coming from the call center are processed, as well as facilitate dealing with automated distribution points. There are already 17 of them in the region, seven of them are in Dnipro. Thus, the company will be in a position to monitor the network in real time, and instantly respond and eliminate faults.
“DTEK is investing in digital transformation, new technologies and innovations to turn Ukraine’s power grids into Smart Grid. This year, we are opening a single technological dispatch center for the entire region in Dnipro. About UAH 27 million was invested. In the future, this center will replace 23 of our control rooms, which functioned in the region. We will be able to monitor our networks and power facilities throughout the region. This will become possible with the General Electric software, which will be implemented until 2023,” says Andrii Tereshchuk, Head of DTEK Dnipro Grids.
The digital dispatching office will serve 1.4 million household and 36,000 business customers in the region. It receives information from almost 13,000 transformer and distribution substations, more than 50,000 km of cable and overhead lines. Everything is handled by dispatchers - specialists who have undergone deep training, which is as difficult, as the one for air traffic controllers.
Two spacious halls with work areas were equipped for them. As well as a video wall that allows coordinating actions in the event of large-scale failures. Each place is ergonomic and noise-insulated, equipped with 4 modern 4K monitors, where our energy workers will monitor the network diagram and the necessary pool of telemetry signals.
It is planned that the ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System) software complex from General Electric Digital, which is the leader of innovative solutions for the energy sector, will start functioning based on a single dispatcher in Dnipro by the end of 2023. With its help, the DSO will see and manage the power grid in real time, as well as respond faster to emergencies. Some customers won’t even notice an outage since the system will switch them to backup power sources in less than one minute.
“I am glad that DTEK Dnipro Grids has become one of the pioneers in Ukraine by launching a unified dispatching service program. It is crucial that experts will see where the trouble is, even before subscribers report a problem. This will improve the quality and shorten the time needed to fulfill requests. The dispatcher sees where a team is and what types of work they are doing. There is a procedure for implementing each type of work, same in our city council. I believe that such a unified dispatching service will be very useful for people in Dnipro, and for the entire Ukraine in the future,” says Deputy Mayor Mykhailo Lysenko.
