DTEK to restore power supply to communities de-energized due to ice rain in Kyiv region

Thermal power generation11 December 2020
Because of the ice rain, ice, wind gusts of 15-20 m/s that covered a large part of our country since the evening of December 10, 42 communities were de-energized completely and 79 partially across Kyiv Region. The Vasylkiv District suffered from outages the most due to the bad weather. Six communities were de-energized completely and 44 partially. DTEK Kyiv Region Grids specialists have been working intensely since yesterday in order to restore electricity supply to customers as soon as possible. The company involved 47 crews consisting of 103 engineers and 68 units of equipment to eliminate the consequences of rough weather.

Icy rain caused significant damages: it froze the airlines that provoked breaks under the weight of frozen water. Also due to icing, trees fell, damaging power lines. In total, more than 45 lines failed due to icing. And because of the ice on the roads, it was extremely difficult for our specialists to get to the accident sites quickly.

As of 1 PM, power supply has already been restored in 16 of the 42 settlements that were completely without electricity and in 29 of the 79 that were partially without electricity. Currently, 26 settlements are completely without electricity and 50 partially. The Vasylkiv District has a lot of de-energized towns. There are 37 more settlements partially and 6 completely without light. The company plans to restore electricity supply in full by 5 pm today, December 11.

DTEK Kyiv Region Grids urges people in the region to follow the electrical safety rules:

  • Do not go near power lines in high winds;
  • Do not approach the broken cable closer than 8-12 meters, and in no case touch it;
  • If you notice any damage to electrical installations, inform the call center specialists at (044) 459-07-40, (067) 495-70-40, (099) 495-70-40, (093) 495-70-40;

Tips for possible outages due to bad weather: you can find information on emergency outages on the website in the section "No power?" If your address is there, that means that our power engineers already know about the power cut, and are dealing with it. There is no need to send one more request by calling the call center. In addition, information on outages can be found in the mobile app Merezhi Online (available in the AppStore and Google Play Market) or via messages on the DTEK Kyiv Region Grids Facebook page.
