DTEK Donetsk Grids to use VR technology for Safety & Health
A virtual reality headset and VR simulator software recreate the 110 kV Yalta substation. The feeling of being fully immersed in the virtual world is provided by 360-degree video. The situational model was created in real scale and is as realistic as possible. A student studies theory and virtually performs more than 50 switchings during the maintenance and commissioning of the substation. Everything is like in real life - interacting with equipment, working with wrenches, use of personal protective equipment, monitoring indicators, performing the necessary operations. The virtual teacher shows how to complete the task.
“DTEK is a conscious business that introduces innovations and new technologies. Using a VR simulator, the company's technicians will be able to drill their actions at the substation. And the speed and safety of equipment switching means a stable operation of the power grid and a reliable power supply to our customers,” says Oleksii Degtyarev, DTEK Donetsk Grids CEO.
The company's specialists have already tested the VR simulator. With a hint in the training mode, and without hints during the exam. Sergii Sagirov, head of the Mangush substations of DTEK Donetsk Grids, was one of the first to successfully complete both tasks: “I learned to use the VR glasses almost immediately. The simulator is very easy to use. This is a great solution for staff training."
At the beginning of 2021, young specialists will start training using the VR simulator, and the company's duty electricians will advance their qualifications.
Kampov Technology (Mariupol) together with the ESH departments of DTEK Donetsk Grids developed the VR simulator training program. The video of the tutorial can be seen here.
