During the 16 months of a full-scale war, DTEK Dnipro Grids has employed 15 dual students

Despite the war, the company continue to train and employ the youth. Since February 24, 2022, DTEK Dnipro Grids helped 15 students get their first job in their specialty. All of them participated in the “Dual education” project that the DSO has been implementing for over 5 years now. It contributes to the creation of barrier-free conditions in Ukraine for the youth to obtain high-quality professional education in specialties, which are in demand on the job market, and get employed. This complies with UN GC Sustainable Development Goals No.8 and No.10 in Ukraine, which DTEK sets for itself and continues to comply with despite the war.
During the 16 months of a full-scale war, DTEK Dnipro Grids has employed 15 dual students

“DTEK Dnipro Grids is a foundation and support for normal life of the country and Ukrainians, including now – during the war. Our projects are aimed not only at recovery after hostilities, but also at the long-term perspective and sustainable development of Ukraine. Despite the war, we did not suspend our dual education project. Over the past 16 months, we have trained and employed 15 young specialists. Now, they are part of a large team of DTEK energy workers. We also plan to continue the project in the next academic year and engage about 10 students,” – noted DTEK Dnipro Grids General Director Andrii Tereshchuk.

Today, DTEK Dnipro Grids collaborates with two higher education institutions in the Dnipropetrovsk region: NTU “Dnipro Polytechnic” and Kamianske State Energy College.

Students of specialized specialties of these educational institutions that chose dual education get an opportunity to study according to the individual program, where 60% of time is theory, and 40% is practice at the enterprise. Throughout study, the company provides students with salary and full social package (medical insurance, vacation, sick leaves, etc.).

“Those who come to us have an equally high level of theoretical training. And that is very good. As, there is no need to start from the scratch. We, at the enterprise, help them gain experience and immediately consolidate acquired knowledge in practice. This is the main advantage of dual education. After participating in the project, the youth is more confident in tomorrow, as it knows the equipment well, understands the energy situation and has no problems with employment,” – told Oleksandr Ivanov, DTEK Dnipro Grids foreman, mentor of dual students

In order to participate in the DTEK Dnipro Grids dual education program in 2023-2024 academic year, a student should be studying in a specialty related to power engineering, attending 3-4 year of study at one of the educational institutions that concluded an agreement with the company, fill in the form and qualify. Dual students sign a tripartite agreement for dual education, and fixed-term employment contracts.

“I am currently at the 4-th year of study in the NTU “Dnipro Polytechnic”. In parallel, I work at one of substations in Dnipro twice a week. Since last October I am doing the internship here and I get paid. Energy workers are now holding the energy front and I am glad that I chose this profession and can be part of the team. Thanks to the dual education, I will possess knowledge and experience that will help me perform well in the chosen business, even before I graduate from the higher education establishment,” – underscored participant of the project, DTEK Dnipro Grids electrical fitter, Ivan Kharkhula.

DTEK Dnipro Grids launched “Dual Education” project in 2019. Over the course of 5 years, 88 students have completed training under the program. They combined theory with practice on equipment that modern Distribution System Operators work with. 51% of them (45 students) got a permanent job in the company.
