For 6 months, another 31,000 DTEK Dnipro Grids customers began to use smart meters

In six months, DTEK Dnipro Grids installed 31,000 smart meters in customers' homes out of 67,000 pieces that were planned for this year. Smart meters help us build a modern infrastructure, and our customers save on electricity thanks to the night rate, which is two times cheaper than the day rate. Funds for the meter installation are provided by the company's investment program for 2021. Therefore, customers do not need to pay for their installation.

Smart meters automatically send readings of consumed electricity, which saves the customer’s time. The customer does not need to additionally report this data to the company through online services or a call center. In addition, customers can save on electricity thanks to the day and night electricity rates, which can significantly reduce electricity cost if the night rate is heavily used*.

DTEK Dnipro Grids plans to install 67,000 smart meters for customers in 2021. By the end of the year, there will be 351,000 customers in total, who have smart meters installed by the company.

It became possible to expand the investment program due to the shift to the investment incentive RAB tariff. This in turn helped to significantly increase the number of installed smart meters, which help customers to save money. By the end of 2021, 27% of the company's customers will use smart meters, and in 9 years all 100% of customers will get new smart metering devices at no additional charge.

DTEK Dnipro Grids installs smart meters as part of their investment programs in residential buildings with obsolete metering devices and low metering accuracy. Installation of such a meter does not imply extra charge on our customers.

As a reminder, in 2020, NEURC approved a new tariff formation model for distribution system operators - the RAB tariff, the purpose of which is to stimulate investments in the development of power grids.

* Smart meters support a function of the night rate, and the customers can enjoy its benefits if desired. The terms can be found on the NEURC website.
