In 2023, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids connected over 500 new renewable energy facilities
After russia’s attacks on the energy system in 2022-2023, the importance of small independent renewable energy facilities increased tremendously. Having as much solar and wind power plants as possible will contribute to more energy independent and flexible Ukrainian energy system. DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids helps create conditions in the Kyiv region for the growth in independent renewables – the company connects such facilities to the grid. Each new connected green generation facility is a contribution to the passing of difficult winter and transformation of Ukrainian energy industry in the nearest future.
“Despite the war and focus of all company’s efforts on restoration of what was destroyed by the enemy, we continue our grids development projects, which will allow connecting and using green energy facilities. Our task is to create conditions for connection of such facilities and ensure reliable power supply, build a reliable, flexible and efficient infrastructure of the grids for the settlements of the region,” - noted Vitalii Shaida, CEO at DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.
Since the beginning of business activity in the Kyiv region, the company have already connected a total of 4,277 green generation facilities with a total capacity of 340.8 MW to the grids.
For reference:
According to the government plan for the Ukrainian energy industry transformation, capacity of solar and wind power plants in Ukraine should increase significantly by 2050. Increasing volumes of green generation is possible because thousands of Ukrainian businesses and households install solar panels and wind turbines at their facilities, while Distribution System Operators connect it to the grids. Therefore, the grids must be physically ready for it considering the increased load on them. Infrastructure of the grids must ensure integration of renewables and create conditions for development of prosumers*.
