Protecting environment despite the war: over 200 tons of DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids waste got a second life last year
Last year, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids sent 227 tons of waste for recycling for further reuse. These are, in particular, reinforced concrete poles, used tires, glass, plastic, etc.
“Our company does not stand aloof from the global processes. Despite the war, it continues to implement principles of circular economy in the field of waste management in particular. We collect it, sort, preserve in special conditions and send for recycling and reuse. Thus, over the past three years almost 2,000 tons of production waste got a second life. For instance, 1,331 tons of reinforced concrete poles were used in construction and for production of crushed stone,” – noted DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids CEO Vitalii Shaida.
The DSO uses 340 marked vessels (containers) for sorting and storing of waste. Everything is arranged in a manner to prevent any negative impact on the environment and direct waste for recycling and further reuse as much as possible.
DSO employees undergo regular training for correct sorting and storing of waste and are encouraged to this way of life not only at work, but at home too.
Additionally, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids supports public environmental initiatives. Project “Precious Plastic” for instance. In 2023, it helped collect and send 134.5 kg of plastic for reuse: 91 kg of dismantled mnemonic circuit in the operations control center, body frames of unserviceable equipment, hardhats, etc. and 43.5 kg of polymer caps.
