DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids to support the Earth Hour campaign

On March 27, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids will join the Earth Hour international environmental initiative, which is held annually under the umbrella of the World Wildlife Fund. This day, the energy company will turn off the illumination of office buildings and signboards in structural units for one hour at 8.30 pm.

“DTEK is transforming its business in accordance with the New Strategy 2030, which is based on ESG principles, values and business responsibility for progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Global Compact. This year, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids will join Earth Hour for the first time. We will turn off the illumination and signboards in the office buildings, the company's structural divisions across Kyiv Region for 60 minutes. By supporting this initiative, we draw attention to the need for a responsible attitude to the nature and the world around us,” says Vitalii Shaida, CEO of DTEK Kyiv Region Grids.

Earth Hour is the largest environmental campaign on the planet that engage more than 2 billion people around the world from more than 180 countries. During the action, the World Wide Fund for Nature calls to turn off the lights for one hour as a sign of concern for the future of the planet. Millions of people around the world symbolically turn off the lights in their homes and workplaces for an hour, making a commitment to take care of nature every day. At the same time, the illumination of the most famous buildings and monuments in the world goes out. In 2021, the international Earth Hour will be held for the 15th time.

DTEK is a responsible and conscious company. DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids priorities biodiversity conservation, responsible attitude to resources and the environment. As previously reported, by installing protective nesting platforms for storks on power line poles, as well as bird protection diverters on high-voltage lines, the company saved about 200 white storks, 120 of which are chicks. In addition, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids installed more than 2,000 eco-friendly lamps in 2020. They are safe, economical, do not contain substances harmful to humans and nature. In recent years, the company has replaced 37% of its lighting fixtures that contain mercury.
