DTEK Grids presented the results of preserving biodiversity at the “Free Sky for Birds 2026” closing conference in Bratislava. In 2025, specialists relocated 120 nests of the white stork to safe platforms. The conference gathered nearly 150 participants from 24 countries, who are working on reducing risks for the birds near the power lines.

During her speech, Olena Potapenko, head of the environmental safety division at DTEK Grids, talked about the results of the company’s distribution systems operators within the framework of the #EnergyWings project and about the state of the grids, affected by the war.

“Even in the conditions of war, we continue to work on the environmentally safe grids. For us, it is important to combine reliability of power supply and responsibility towards ecosystems and communities,” — noted Olena Potapenko.

As part of the field side of the conference, Slovakian grids operator “Energy distributor for the Slovakia” demonstrated mounting of bird-protective solutions at the dangerous sections of the medium and high voltage power lines and artificial nests for the roller. Delegations visited the environmental site “Biskupické luhy” near the Danube River, as well as areas in Hungary and Austria, where the projects on preservation of bustards and other species are being implemented.

DTEK Grids participation in the “Free Sky for Birds 2026” confirms the demand for Ukrainian experience in the international environmental community. The company will continue developing technologies, partnerships and projects that reduce infrastructure’s impact on wildlife and move us toward a more sustainable energy future.
