iDTEK Odessa Grids explains how not to be left without electricity during hot weather

Meteorologists forecast that hot weather will remain in the south of the country for a long time. Increased temperature makes residents of Odessa and region to more and more often use energy-consuming appliances for cooling of rooms and long-term storage of food. This increases the load on local grids (in apartments, houses) and the entire energy system of region. DTEK Odessa Grids prepared advices that will help survive the heat and not be left without electricity.

The main problem for the grids during hot weather is overload. Customers actively use energy-consuming electrical appliances (air conditioners, climate systems, fans, freezers) that work in full power mode. Such mode often exceeds capacities of the internal and external grids. As a result – power lines fail, emergencies happen and residents are left without electricity.

“DTEK hears and understands customers’ needs. Since the beginning of hostilities at the territory of our country, emergency and restoration crews of the company were transferred to the 24/7 operating mode. Distribution System Operator is doing everything possible to maintain electricity for people in such a difficult time. At the same time, we recommend customers to avoid using energy-consuming household appliances during abnormally high temperatures, as it creates additional load on the grid and may cause an emergency,” – underscored the company.

It is especially relevant for old houses and buildings. Their internal and external grids (power lines, transformers, etc.) were designed and constructed for a minimum set of electrical appliances. Introduction of a large number of energy-consuming appliances, including installation of powerful climate systems, causes the grid to fail. Especially during peak consumption hours and during extreme temperatures.

In order not to be left without electricity during hot weather DTEK Odessa Grids has prepared advices of rational electricity consumption:

  • give preference to electrical appliances of energy efficiency class А, А+, А++, А+++;
  • do not use all energy-consuming appliances in the apartment/house at the same time;
  • if there are several air conditioners in your home, please switch on the one that is located where you are at the time. Please remember that the difference between outdoor and indoor temperature should not exceed 10°C;
  • upgrade the grids in your apartments and houses;
  • remember that the grids in your apartment and the entire building are designed to consume a specific volume of electric power. Its excess may cause a power outage. This volume is specified in your distribution agreement, concluded with DTEK Odessa Grids;
  • have contacts of an electrician. Because if there is an emergency or an issue inside the building, then the person responsible for the internal grid (managing company, condominium, owner) should deal with it;

In case of power outage due to overload, please switch off all energy-consuming appliances and turn on the circuit breaker. If power outages keep happening, please contact an electrician. Do not try to repair it yourself, it is not safe!
