“DTEK transforms the business in accordance with the New Strategy 2030, based on ESG principals, values and business responsibility for progress in achieving the sustainable development goals of the UN Global Compact. For 5 months of 2021, DTEK Odesa Grids replaced 21 units of old oil-filled equipment (switches, bushings, transformers) with an environmentally friendly vacuum or dry dielectric ones. The service life of such equipment is longer, and it eliminates the risks of polluting our environment with oil products,” says Oleksandr Fomenko, CEO of DTEK Odesa Grids.

According to the head of the company, the Distribution System Operator sorts the waste into 40 categories. 70% of collected waste is recycled. Such waste handling practices follow the European closed-loop (circular) economy model and promote the rational use of natural resources. For five months of 2021, DTEK Odesa Grids sent 49.5 tons of waste for recycling, and built three special shielded sites to store the waste temporarily.

Let us recall that in 2020 DTEK Odesa Grids installed 26 nesting platforms for storks, most of them were in Nikolayevsky, Tatarbunarsky and Okniansky Districts. Through such an initiative, the company saved more then 500 birds last year only. By the end of 2021, it is planned to have 60 more of such platforms across Odesa Region. Besides, the company installed 1,340 reflective bird diverters on the 110kV high voltage line named Adzhalyk-Sychavka. Such actions will potentially save the birds, protect them against collision with high voltage lines during migration, eliminate networks failures and short circuits. By the end of 2021, it is planned to have another 850 bird diverters installed.

DTEK Odesa Grids commits to the health & safety and sustainability. To confirm this, the company has successfully undergone the audit and gained certificates for compliance with international standards, such as ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015.
