Energy workers of DTEK Odesa Grids helped restore operation of the high-voltage substation that provides Khersonians with water and heating
10 energy workers and 3 items of machinery of DTEK Odesa Grids went to help with emergency and restoration activities in the Kherson region. These are the crews of the industrial vehicles and high-voltage grids operation department.
“Over the past two months, our men went to Kherson on four occasions to help colleagues put a 150 kV high-voltage substation into operation. Transformers went out of order due to enemy shelling back in December. Let me remind that last summer this very substation was flooded due to the destruction of Kakhovka HPP by the invaders. Every time we help our colleagues-energy workers repair equipment to energize critical infrastructure facilities in the first place and provide Khersonians with heat and water supply,” – underscored Dmytro Hryhoriev, CEO at DTEK Odesa Grids.
Energy workers have been working in the extremely difficult conditions to the sounds of explosions as the enemy continues to shell Kherson from the left bank of the Dnipro river. For security reasons, they worked only in bulletproof vests and hardhats. Specialists have repaired a power facility to the operating state and put a substation into operation, thus restoring water and heat supply to the homes of Khersonians.
“When we went to Kherson with the boys, there was no fear. It was scary to see people's eyes that look at you with despair and hope. Khersonians lived in occupation for eight months and now they suffer from daily enemy shelling. We simply had no choice but to repair the substation. As we cannot even imagine what it is like to be without heating, electricity and water in winter. But they, unfortunately, know it from their own bitter experience,” – Andrii Zhosan, head of the electrotechnical laboratory at DTEK Odesa Grids shared his emotions.
Let us remind that in August 2023, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko and the head of Odesa RMA Oleh Kiper awarded four energy workers of DTEK Odesa Grids with the Certificate of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the breast badge “For excellence in energy industry”. Departmental awards were given for courage during restoration of power supply in the Kherson region and for personal contribution to provision of Ukrainians with electricity during the war.
