Energy workers of DTEK Grids DSO installed 120 platforms for storks and ringed over 100 nestlings in 2025

DTEK Grids DSO continue to contribute to preserving biodiversity and secure white stork nests in Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kyiv regions and in the city of Kyiv. In 2025, energy workers installed 120 special platforms for nests and helped ornithologists ring 106 nestlings. DTEK Grids energy workers are implementing environmental initiatives in compliance with the UN sustainable development goals and ESG principles.

On International Birds Day, DTEK Grids DSO are providing a summary of the #EnergyWings project performance in 2025. Safe platforms for stork nests appeared in all regions of the DSO operation last year:

     · 64 — in the Odesa region,

     · 25 — in the Dnipropetrovsk region,

     · 26 — in the Kyiv region,

     · 5 — in the city of Kyiv.

Since 2013, DSO energy workers have already relocated 841 white stork nests to safe platforms.

In 2025, the storks returned to 95% of nests on the platforms in all regions of DSO operation. The platforms are mounted only when the storks are absent in their nests in order not to harm them. All decisions are made based on the ornithologists’ recommendations.

For the third year in a row, DTEK Grids DSO have been helping ornithologists implement a unique project on ringing the white stork nestlings in cooperation with the Polish Ornithological Society “Małopolskiego Towarzystwa Ornitologicznego”. In 2025, 106 nestlings in 44 nests were ringed in Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions. 56 of them — in 21 nests in the Tsarychanka community of the Dnipropetrovsk region and 50 — in 23 nests in Berezivskyi and Izmailskyi districts of the Odesa region.

Special tags provide an opportunity to track stork migration routes, study the impact of war and other factors and determine the number of birds that return to Ukraine. Over the course of three years, 272 nestlings have been ringed in these regions.

In 2026, the company will continue this initiative —mounting six more platforms is scheduled for the first half of the year, which is a part of the long-term DTEK Grids strategy for preserving biodiversity and doing business responsibly.
